Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped Books I've Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish, where we list our top ten according to a topic of the week. I'm actually not participating in this weekly, only because I know that for some of the topics I really can't come up with a list of ten. For future topics though, check them out here. 

Top Ten Hyped Books I've Never Read

Off the top of my head these are just 10 I thought of. I say I'm a keen reader, but for all the books I've read there are many hyped books I've barely looked at. These 10 barely skim the surface - oops - but I've tried to include different genres.

  

1. Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth
When this series was at its peak I was pretty much very disinterested, but when I decide I wanted to give it a try someone ruined the entire series for me. Much disappointment. So anger.

2. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger
A very well known classic, I think I did attempt it in high school but obviously that failed.

3. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
This is so big over on BookTube and I'm pretty sure in the blogosphere as well. I am so intrigued but every time I go to buy it it never makes the final cut. One day, I promise, one day.

4. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
About half way through. Will get to the other half some time soon. (I hope).

5. Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi
Pretty much the same story as the above books. Except there's not much of an urgency just yet.

6. Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu
See Shatter Me for basically the same explanation - although for this one the hype was a bit off putting.

7. 1984 by George Orwell
Or just about any George Orwell novel to be frank. Don't worry guys, I will get there. I will.

8. The Darkest Minds Trilogy by Alexandra Bracken
I actually really do want to read this. Probably when Summer break comes I will marathon all three novels.

9. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
The hype was so large, a movie was made out of it. I have not seen the movie either and I'm going to be perfectly honest and say I don't have intention to read or see either.

10. On The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
I'm not sure if this is still hyped but I've actually been pressured to read this, and have not been able to get past the first 50 pages. Maybe some time in the future I'll get around to it again. Maybe.

Top Ten Reads for Readers Who Like Character Driven Novels

1. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
A touching story about an 11 year old boy who loses his father in 9/11 and must find his own way to deal with his grief. I absolutely loved this and would recommend it even if you didn't like character driven novels.

2. Matilda by Roald Dahl
This is a pretty obvious choice but it's such an amazing story that deserves a shout-out anytime.

3. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
There's a reason why the novel is named after the character - Jane Eyre is probably the original "bad-ass" heroine, in her own way, and I loved her journey from child to adulthood.

4. This Boy's Life by Tobias Wolff
Not entirely fiction, Tobias Wolff relays his childhood in this memoir, delivering a passionate and haunting tale.

5. The White Queen (The Cousins War #1) by Philippa Gregory
Elizabeth Woodville is the star of this historical novel, and by far my favourite female character of all time!

6. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Whilst I've noticed that everyone had Eleanor and Park, I felt like I really connected with Cath in this more and her progression was engaging and relatable.

7. Wonder by R. J Palacio
This was both sad and awe-inspiring.

8. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
You get two for the price of one in this, and it depends on whether you want to choose or love both the female characters.

9. Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan and John Green
Surprisingly, I feel like the character that really delivered this story was a side character by the name of Tiny. He is the epitome of positivity and kindness.

10. Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas
Ok, this series is hands down one of the best ongoing series right now and I'm sneaking it in because I think everyone needs to read it. Now!

Top Ten Books I Want To Read But Don't Own

I thought this was going to be hard because I'd have to sift through all my To-Read books on Goodreads, but I actually struggled to compile a list of ten. Weird. 

1. The King's Curse by Philippa Gregory - I've been waiting for this the entire year, and I've featured this countless of time you guys must be sick of it. The finale to The Cousins' War series better be good!
2. Dangerous Boys by Abigail Haas - This wouldn't even be on the list if I hadn't read Abigail Haas' other novel on the weekend. I loved it so much, I just want to read everything that's written about her. I featured Dangerous Girls as my favourite novel for the week, so read about it here. 
3. S by J. J Abrams and Doug Dorst - This is the one book I want but don't want because of the price. I found it for $20 in store but hesitated and now it's gone! 
4. The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan - Percy Jackon rules! The Lost Hero is part of the companion series - The Heroes of Olympus - to Percy Jackson and the Olympians. 
5. Coraline by Neil Gaiman - I haven't seen the movie yet but there's something about this that draws my attention. 





6. To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han - Published this year, I keep coming back to look at this. I need!
7. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie - I'm hesitantly putting this on my list because as much as I think it'll be an amazing read, I'm also scared out of wits. Still I love crime novels and I can't call myself a crime fan without reading some Agatha Christie. 
8. Once by Cameron Dokey - There's actually three separate novels in this bind up, made up of three "farityale" retellings; Mulan, Rapunzel and Cinderella. 
9. The Archived by Victoria Schwabb - I'm going to blame JesseTheReader with this because every time he raves about this I add it to my cart (then end up not buying it).
10. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - Yep, another BookTube recommendation, this time by WhittyNovels (Whitney).
