I am ultra excited to get my hands on this. I'm not much of a romance reader but to think that the actor of a famous TV series who is also a secretly popular fan fiction writer for the series ends up dating his number fan just got to me.

Genre: Fantasy

11. Come On In by Various Authors

This also made my most anticipated releases for 2020, combining a number of stories about immigration and what comes with it.

Except Talin Kanami, a member of Mara's elite fighting force, isn't ready to give up so easily. 
3. Grown by Tiffany D. JacksonGenre: YA Mystery/ThrillerRelease Date: September 15th, 2020

This time he returns with a Sci-Fi novel, in which Kira Navarez is thrust into a war amongst the stars, something she never expected to happen.

When No One is Watching by Alyssa ColeGenre: Thriller/MysteryRelease Date: September 1st, 2020Sydney starts to notice many of her neighbours in Brooklyn are disappearing, with For Sale signs placed overnight at a rapid rate. Sydney and her neighbour Theo starts to do some digging, beginning to learn of the secrets around their neighbourhood including what gentrification can do and what other conspiracies lie in wait. 
7. Who I Was With Her by Nita Tyndall Genre: YA Contemporary & LGBQT+Release Date: September 15th, 2020This hits maybe a little too close to home, and I guess that's why it's on my list. I've found myself leaning more towards books with situations I may have experienced or have some similarities, only to see how the characters react and respond to these situations. I guess it's more for me to learn and reflect on my own behaviours and emotions. 
8. We Are Not Free by Traci Chee Genre: YA Historical Fiction Release Date: September 1st, 2020 This also made my most anticipated releases for the last half of 2020. Fourteen young teens are rounded up amongst 100,000 other people with Japanese ancestry and sent to incarceration camps. They work together to bring down the injustices and racism that have placed them in this dangerous situation.  I expect this to be an impactful and thought-provoking read. 
9. Early Departure by Justin A. ReynoldsGenre: YA Contemporary & Fantasy Release Date: September 22nd, 2020Early Departure combines fantasy with contemporary to deliver a story about friendship, interwoven with loss, grief and love.
10. Blood & Honey (Serpent & Dove #2) by Shelby MahurinGenre: YA Fantasy Release Date: September 1st, 2020The second instalment to the Serpent & Dove series, which I'm sure many people are excited for. Personally, I do have the first book but haven't read it just yet. Maybe knowing that this is coming out soon will push me too.

I came by someone's explanation of this as Salem (The Crucible) meets The Handmaid's Tale and yes, I'm here for it.

Release Date: July 28th, 2020

Tracy Beaumont's father has been on death row for 7 years. She's been desperately trying to help him because she knows he's innocent, except time is running out. Then her brother, Jamal, is arrested for the murder of a white girl. Tracy starts investigating Jamal's relationship with Angela. It's up to her to save her family whilst uncovering the racism that has been deep rooted in her town.

This is a must read.

1. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (The Hunger Games #0) by Suzanne Collins

Expected Publication Date: May 19th, 2020

I'm fairly sure there is going to top many May release lists and honestly, I wouldn't blame them. It's been so long since we were introduced to The Hunger Games and now that Suzanne Collins has decided to revisit the world, the book community is holding their breath in anticipation.

This release is centered around Snow, before he was president. It's definitely not a character we would've chosen to hear from but I think he makes for an interesting character to read about. Feels like I'm 14 again!

2. Burn by Patrick Ness

Expected Publication Date: May 7th, 2020

I will be very honest in saying I have no clue what this book is about, even though I've read the synopsis multiple times. There's dragons involved, hired to help out a farm, during the 1950s. Seriously, what? What I do know though, is that Patrick Ness is a wizard with words and anything he writes is bound to be an experience.

3. Library of Legends by Jamie Chang

Expected Publication Date: May 12th, 2020

A historical novel about a girl named Lian who embarks on dangerous journey across China, escaping Japan's attacks whilst trying to protect a collection of myths and folklore know as the Library of Legends. This gives me Cinderella Sister and Mao's Last Dancer vibes, and if anything, I'm hoping this read gives me a feeling of nostalgia along with a rather fulfilling adventure.

4. The Thirty Names of Night by Zeyn Joukhader

Expected Publication Date: May 19th, 2020

I truly expect this to be a magical read, and something really out of the blue for me. Zeyn Joukhader delivers a story about 3 generations of Syrian Americans, tied to a mysterious species of birds and what truths lies in their relationships to the birds.

5. The Boy in the Red Dress by Kristin Lambert

Expected Publication Date: May 12th, 2020

Millie runs the Cloak & Dagger, a swinging speakeasy, in the 1920s. The club's star performer, Marion, the boy in the red dress, finds himself being named the main suspect in the murder of a young socialite. Millie doesn't believe it's true but no one else is willing to help her prove Marion's innocence. Posed as A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue meets Miss Fisher's Murder Mystery I'm expecting an enthralling murder mystery bundled together with the glitz and glam of the roaring 20s.

This is one of those novels that I didn't think I'd pick up but that's also why I'm really intrigued to read it. Jessa-Lynn Morton finds her dad dead after he suicides. After that she has to step up to support her family as well as trying to balance her relationship between her brother and his wife, who she is in love with as well. 

On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong - June 4th

Not only has On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous has received a lot of love so far, it's piqued my interest because of the context behind it. I come from a refugee family, with my dad's family escaping Vietnam during the war. Despite that I haven't read a lot of stories regarding this era and I am really excited to get to this.

The Forgotten Sister by Caroline Bond - June 6th
17-year-old Cassie sets out to find her birth mother, but she might not have been ready to discover what is really the truth behind her adoption.

Storm and Fury (The Harbringer #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout - June 11th

Latest series from a well-known author, Storm and Fury is the latest YA paranormal read.

Mrs Everything by Jennifer Weiner - June 11th

Weiner sets her story in a historical context, following 2 sisters with different dreams and pathways, but ultimately attempting to navigate how to be a women in their era.

One Night at the Lake by Bethany Chase - June 18th

June and her fiancé Ollie head to his family lake house 7 years after they visited last time with Ollie's then girlfriend and June's then best friend Leah, who disappeared. I'm sorry what?! Did she steal her best friend's boyfriend, what is going on? Yeah that was legitimately my initial reaction.

The Stationary Shop by Marjan Kamali - June 18th

A romance tale where two people felt destined to be together and reunite 60 years later to answer questions on why it didn't work out between them in the past.

The Art of Breaking Things by Laura Sibson - June 18th

(Trigger warnings for sexual/child assault, trauma and substance abuse)

Sibson takes this YA contemporary novel, The Art of Breaking Things, to explore family responsibilities and relationships and dealing with trauma. I do think this will be super confrontational but know that I'll gain something out of it.

I am all for family mysteries, especially ones that stem from generations before and somehow link up with present day. When Leia heads home to sort out some family issues and announce that she’s pregnant, she soon discovers that theres more that’s been hidden than what she’s expected.

The Breakdown by B.A Paris - July 18th 

Cass is haunted by the image of the lady in the car she drove past one night, the lady who was killed. She seems to be forgetting everything, but that lady. 

Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Footy - July 25th

16 year old Sorina is born with the gift of creating illusions, and uses her skills in the Gomorrah Festival. Her illusions may seem lifelike, but they’re still not real. Until one of them is murdered. Sorina must find out who the culprit is and how they killed someone who doesn’t even exist.

1. Defy The Stars by Claudia Gray
I'm not a huge sci-fi reader, but after the likes of Illuminae and Ready Player One I want to give this a go. Also because Claudia Gray seems to be a very popular author.

2. Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
Bailey finds herself crushing on Alex, a film geek she meets online. Meanwhile her new co-worker Porter has been getting on her nerves and she's declared him her arch-nemesis. BUT what happens when both Alex and Porter are the same person? DUN DUN DUN.

3. Geekerella by Ashley Boston
A retelling of Cinderella in modern time - I'm really hoping this is the cute read I expect it to be.

4. The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
I told myself I would widen my reading experience, and The Upside of Unrequited gives me a chance to explore more LGBQT reads.

5. The Adjustment (The Program #3) by Suzanne Young
The Program was a great read, and I'm intrigued to see how Young will portray the consequences on the characters beyond the first novel.

6. He Said/She Said by Erin Kelly
Laura witnesses a brutal attack, and now her boyfriend, Kit, and herself live in fear. That's really all I got but I do love psychological thrillers so I'm hoping that this one will deliver.

7. I Found You by Lisa Jewell
You definitely need to read the synopsis to this because I don't think I could do it justify. Just know that a newly married lady is told her husband doesn't actually exist, and in another city a man is taken in after being found sitting outside someone's home. Sorry what?! This is going to be a mystery I need to get my hands on!

8. 180 Seconds by Jessica Park
Allison is seated opposite Esben for 180 seconds, and in those 180 seconds something changes between them. OoooooooOOo.

March 2017 Releases

1. Garden of Thorns by Amber Mitchell

Very Throne of Glass like, but I guess that's why this has enticed me. Rose is a slave who has found an opportunity to escape, but she finds herself being part of a rebellion plot and now she needs to figure out where her loyalty lies.

2. Seven Days of You by Cecila Vinesse

Sophia has 7 days left before she leaves Tokyo to go back home. When Jamie, her ex, arrives in Tokyo the 7 days she has left is a test to their relationship. I don't know whether it's because I'm going to Tokyo and it's set there or because it takes place over 7 days so I'm expecting it to be intense and fast paced, but we will see!

3. The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz

A contemporary about finding yourself, after being so sure in life before being confused and lost. Saenz wrote the amazing Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe series so I'm really hoping the writing will be as fantastic in this contemporary.

4. The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui

I relate to this so much being a child from a refugee family. This is a graphic novel that relays the tremendous sacrifices and efforts put into seeking a new life for your own family and the consequences it may leave on you.

5. The Song Rising (The Bone Season #3) by Samantha Shannon

The third part to the epic fantasy that is now widely known within YA. I better hurry and read the second one first!

6. The End of Oz (Dorothy Must Die #4) by Danielle Paige

Again, another sequel where I'm only on the second book - eep. But I did really enjoy the plot of this series as it is such a bizarre but fascinating adaption to the Wizard of Oz.

7. The Heartbeats of Wing Jones by Katherine Webber

Wing idolised her brother Marcus, much like everyone else in their town, but when he drives drunk and ends up in accident that kills two people, she has to learn to cope with her brothers decisions and the effects it leaves on the people around her. Very, very deep.

8. Nemesis by Brendan Reichs

Yes to thriller! Nemesis is introduced as Orphan Black meets Lord of the Flies, which sounds epic already. A girl constantly dies on the day of her birthday but wakes up with no evidence of it struggles to discover what is actually going on in her life.

9. Lola by Melissa Scrivner Love

This is Adult thriller, where the leader of the gang is actually Lola, the supposed leader's partner. She controls their movements and I am so in this because it is a female protagonist who is pulling the rings - despite committing crime.

10. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

I'm fairly sure this is on everyone's list for most anticipated release of the year, let alone March. I am so excited because Taylor wrote one of my favourite series and I am expecting so much from this.

Waiting On July: Sci-Fi, Thriller and New HP Book? Yes Please!

July Releases

1. Learning to Swear In America by Katie Kennedy
Sci-fi setting romance, and whilst I've never been a huge sci-fi reader, I've started to enjoy them a lot more now. Not going to lie though, it was the title that got me.

2. The Creeper Man by Dawn Kurtagich
The cover of the book already alludes to what the story is about. Anything psychological thriller has me invested, and if this book does it right then I will be all the more excited!

3. A World Without You by Beth Revis
This is a very intriguing and somewhat bizarre plot line. I'm really curious because it's a different take to Mental Health and raising awareness.

4. P.S I Like You by Kasie West
I haven't read contemporary in so long, but this sounds like a sweet and light hearted romantic read. Definitely a great summer read (even though we're in winter right now).

5. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child by J.K Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany
I don't even have to explain this. Anything Harry Potter is a must buy. Must buy!!

Waiting On June: A Well Loved Author Makes A Comeback Amongst A Mix of History and Fantasy

June brings around 4 new releases that I'm eagerly awaiting!

1. This Savage Song (Monster Verity #1) by Victoria Schwab
Victoria Schwab is a huge YA author and her new series is definitely one of the most anticipated for this year. This Savage Song is fantasy based with monsters and humans, and questions of good and evil. Oo.

2. Risuko: A Kunoichi Tale (Seasons of the Sword #1) by David Kugler
A tale of a Japanese girl who has the power to save her nation and this makes me super excited! I hardly read novels with characters from minority groups so I'm hoping this is going to wow me.

3. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows
This is the historical fiction lover in me coming out, but I'm pretty sure the three authors put a modern twist on the story of Lady Jane Grey.

4. Never Ever by Sara Saedi
Another Peter Pan retelling and whilst I do think retellings are hit or miss, this does sound like something that may be interesting. A bit or romance entwined with the adventures - nothing could go wrong right?

1. The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo #1) by Rick Riordan

Apollo gets his time to shine in this new series by Rick Riordan and I'm super excited because Riordan has an amazing way of portraying Greek mythology, that is both education and entertaining. 

2. The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani and Mind Scott
I haven't read a lot of contemporary this year but this one sounds like it's going to be meaningful and memorable.

3. Everland by Wendy Spinale
Spin on Peter Pan and Im super excited because it's one of my favourite novels! Set in London amongst a disease that has taken over the city, Peter and Captain Hook's adventure is retold.

4. The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L Armentrout
I love Jennifer L Armentrout's writing and despite not being a huge romance reader, I still want to read this.

5. Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee
Historical fiction? Female, asian protagonist? Okay you got me. I really want to see how this one unfolds.

1. Beyond the Red by Ava Jae 

One ruler. One alien. Both framed for assassination. In an alien/human world? Yes please!

2. The Girl Who Raced Fairyland All The Way Home (Fairyland #5) by Catherynne M. Valente 

The finale to Fairyland is much anticipated! I'm excited but also sad that this modern day fairytale is about to end.

3. The Girl Who Fell by Shannon M. Parker

I'm guessing this is about dysfunctional relationships and the dangers a person may possess despite them talking about loving you. 

4. The Crown and The Arrow (The Wrath and The Dawn #0.5) by Renee Ahdieh

I am obsessed with this series and anything that can feed my withdrawal until the next book comes out is most welcome. 

5. Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Reigate 

Seven view points of high school dramas. I haven't read a contemporary in awhile so I'm excited!
