Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
I haven't done a Top Ten Tuesday post in years but I'm excited to partake in this feature again!
Top Ten Opening Lines
(we're talking best, funniest, favourite, gripping etc.)

How could I forget the opening line to My The Book Thief? Such a great story.
ReplyDeleteAnd there are some great other quotes. Thank you.
My TTT.
It's such a sad sentence! But yes an incredible story. Thanks for coming by!
DeleteI haven't heard of most of these. Although I really do love that opening for Peter Pan. Simple, elegant, and a good testament to the story. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT!
I'm glad you were introduced to some new openers! Peter Pan is a certainly a classic for a reason. Thanks for reading :)
DeleteI love the opening to The Book Thief, how could you not be intrigued by that???

I know right! It really makes me want to re-read the book again tbh. Thanks for coming by!
DeleteSomeone else mentioned Peter Pan this week as well! Yes, that one does have a fantastic opening line.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT .
I feel like people forget about the opening line because it's other more well known line "second star to the right, and straight on til morning"!
DeleteOh, I think mine might be the first line of Raven Boys, when Blue says something about being told she would kill her first love.
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually read the Raven Boys yet but all the hype possibly means something right? Also if that's the first line then it would definitely intrigue me!
DeleteThese are some very evocative first lines! I especially love the PETER PAN one. It's just so enchanting!
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
I love your use of language! Evocative was my favourite word in high school, how could I forget?? But yes Peter Pan is absolutely gorgeous in general. Thanks for coming by!!
DeleteAh The Book Thief... and Peter Pan! Great list - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT is here https://bookloverssanctuary.com/2020/05/26/top-ten-tuesday-opening-lines/
Both great reads and have such a big place in my heart. Thanks for reading!!
DeleteI love how you formatted this post! The Book Thief is one of my favorite books ever. I love that opening line.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think the consensus is The Book Thief being everyone's favourite, so I'm glad I included it!! Also the layout of this was somewhat of a headache hahha but I got there in the end. Thank you!!
DeleteAh, The Book Thief. That first line and the rest of the book are so memorable.
ReplyDelete100% couldn't agree more!
DeleteI've seen the quote from Peter Pan on several lists! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprise, it sets the tone for the story so well!!
DeleteThe line from Strange the Dreamer is on many lists this week! I really like "Once upon a time, a girl named September had a secret." The title of the book (The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making) is pretty amazing, too! Here's my TTT.
ReplyDeleteI honestly couldn't recommend The Fairyland series enough! It's so worth it and every other Catherynne M Valente book out there, she is a magician with words. Thanks for reading!
DeleteI want to try The Fairyland series now — it sounds really good!
Delete(Your blog is beautiful, by the way!)
Let me know what you think of it, whenever you get around to it! And thank you :)
